Fixed #10660 -- `GeometryField` no longer requires `srid`/`null` keywords, and now respects `required`; coordinate transformations now done inside `gis.forms.GeometryField` -- benefit being that `OSMGeoAdmin` no longer requires 900913 entry in `spatial_ref_sys` thus enabling it to work with MySQL/Oracle spatial backends; added tests for geographic forms.

Fixed #9420 -- Fixed admin templates CSS.

Removed some unconditional, invalid, IE-specific notations that were
protecting IE 5 users. IE 5 is sufficiently old, we don't really need to
do that and helping that small userbase at the expense of everybody else
was a slight priority inversion.
Patch from G2P and reviwed by Wilson Miner (who made the original
changes).

Added experimental support for a POSTGIS_VERSION setting for GeoDjango. If set, it will tell GeoDjango not to do the postgis_lib_version() query every time the server starts up (assuming a PostGIS backend). This is intentionally undocumented because Justin mentioned he might be refactoring the backends for Django 1.2 such that this setting would be unnecessary. Until then, people can use this hook.

Fixed #10645 -- Added some robustness around some admin and modelform params.

Fieldset dictionary names, search fields and unique_together attribute
names all have to be convertible to strings (that has always been true).
If somebody passes in a unicode object, Python barfs because Django uses
those values as keyword argument names and function calls require
parameter names to be str objects. We now convert thing to strs
automatically.

Applied latest changes to `ListMixin` from Aryeh Leib Taurog and added him to AUTHORS; fixed memory leak introduced in r10174 -- no longer call `ListMixin.__init__` and set methods manually because it created references that prevented garbage collection; fixed several routines that had no need to be class methods.

Made a bunch of improvements to admin actions. Be warned: this includes one minor but BACKWARDS-INCOMPATIBLE change.

These changes are:
* BACKWARDS-INCOMPATIBLE CHANGE: action functions and action methods now share the same signature: `(modeladmin, request, queryset)`. Actions defined as methods stay the same, but if you've defined an action as a standalone function you'll now need to add that first `modeladmin` argument.
* The delete selected action is now a standalone function registered site-wide; this makes disabling it easy.
* Fixed #10596 : there are now official, documented `AdminSite` APIs for dealing with actions, including a method to disable global actions. You can still re-enable globally-disabled actions on a case-by-case basis.
* Fixed #10595 : you can now disable actions for a particular `ModelAdmin` by setting `actions` to `None`.
* Fixed #10734 : actions are now sorted (by name).
* Fixed #10618 : the action is now taken from the form whose "submit" button you clicked, not arbitrarily the last form on the page.
* All of the above is documented and tested.

Fixed a sloppy test auth test. [10400] revealed that the auth test was relying on the weird difference between calling a management from the shell and from `call_command`. That this worked in the first case was pretty much an accident.

Fixed #10695 -- Fixed implementation of deferred attribute retrieval.

The original implementation had a few silly bugs in it that meant that data was
not being used only on the instance of the class that it was appropriate for
(one of the traps when using class-level things). No more!

Tweaked a GIS expected test failure.

The test was only checking for geos version 3.0.0, but it failed for all
3.0.x versions. This change makes the version check skip the test for
anything 3.0-ish.

Refactored and cleaned up parts of the spatial database backend. Changes include:

* Laid foundations for SpatiaLite support in `GeoQuerySet`, `GeoWhereNode` and the tests.
* Added the `Collect` aggregate for PostGIS (still needs tests).
* Oracle now goes to 11.
* The backend-specific `SpatialRefSys` and `GeometryColumns` models are now attributes of `SpatialBackend`.
* Renamed `GeometryField` attributes to be public that were private (e.g., `_srid` -> `srid` and `_geom` -> `geom_type`).
* Renamed `create_test_db` to `create_test_spatial_db`.
* Removed the legacy classes `GeoMixin` and `GeoQ`.
* Removed evil `\` from spatial backend fields.
* Moved shapefile data from `tests/layermap` to `tests/data`.

Refactored the GEOS interface. Improvements include:

* Geometries now allow list-like manipulation, e.g., can add, insert, delete vertexes (or other geometries in collections) like Python lists. Thanks, Aryeh Leib Taurog.
* Added support for GEOS prepared geometries via `prepared` property. Prepared geometries significantly speed up certain operations.
* Added support for GEOS cascaded union as `MultiPolygon.cascaded_union` property.
* Added support for GEOS line merge as `merged` property on `LineString`, and `MultiLineString` geometries. Thanks, Paul Smith.
* No longer use the deprecated C API for serialization to/from WKB and WKT. Now use the GEOS I/O classes, which are now exposed as `WKTReader`, `WKTWriter`, `WKBReader`, and `WKBWriter` (which supports 3D and SRID inclusion)
* Moved each type of geometry to their own module, eliminating the cluttered `geometries.py`.
* Internally, all C API methods are explicitly called from a module rather than a star import.

Pass values through get_db_prep_save() in a QuerySet.update() call.

This removes a long-standing FIXME in the update() handling and allows for
greater flexibility in the values passed in. In particular, it brings updates
into line with saves for django.contrib.gis fields, so fixed #10411 .

Invalidate the appropriate SITE_CACHE entry when saving a Site model.

This avoids the problem of, for example, saving a change to the Site model in
the admin interface and then seeing the wrong instanec returned in the next
call to get_current_site().
It's still possible to end up with an inconsistent cache if update() is used to
change the Site model, but that's pretty unavoidable. It's also a slightly odd
way to update a Site model, so if you really need to do that, you can manage to
call SiteManager.clear() at the same time.

Cleaned up and refactored `ModelAdmin.formfield_for_dbfield`:
...
* The new method uses an admin configuration option (`formfield_overrides`); this makes custom admin widgets especially easy.
* Refactored what was left of `formfield_for_dbfield` into a handful of smaller methods so that it's easier to hook in and return custom fields where needed.
* These `formfield_for_*` methods now pass around `request` so that you can easily modify fields based on request (as in #3987 ).
Fixes #8306 , #3987 , #9148 .

Fixed #6470 : made the admin use a URL resolver.

This *is* backwards compatible, but `admin.site.root()` has been deprecated. The new style is `('^admin/', include(admin.site.urls))`; users will need to update their code to take advantage of the new customizable admin URLs.

The current admin templates do not need this. However, a common way to customize admin
appearance is to provide your own 'base_site.html' template, and add stylesheets using
the extrastyle block. Without this patch, these customizations are lost.

The second part of fixing "related inherited models" display. Handle raw_id values for child models in the admin. Fixed #9461 .

I couldn't think of a way to test this automatically and robustly, however,
manual testing with the ticket example shows failure before and success
afterwards and the fix make sense logically.

Removed the hidden import rules in the contrib.admin stylesheets. Each individual stylesheet is now linked to explicitly from the template where it's used (in the extrastyle block), with the exception of widgets.css, which is imported by forms.css, but still available separately for reuse. Also moved the override stylesheets (IE and RTL) below the extrastyle block and all styles within the conditional comment which blocks CSS from IE5 and lower.

When calling User.get_profile(), we now tell the profile object about the

Moved the bulk of the shortcut() function in django/views/defaults.py to a new module, django/contrib/contenttypes/views.py. As a result, django/views/defaults.py no longer relies on django.contrib.contenttypes. Of course, the shortcut() function is still available in the former module, for backwards compatibility. See the new FutureBackwardsIncompatibleChanges wiki page.

Improvements to [8608] to fix an infinite loop (for exclude(generic_relation)).

Also comes with approximately 67% less stupidity in the table joins for

Tweaked the admin validation code to make things a bit easier to read. Tracing

through all the underscore-prefixed and wrapped functions was a bit trying and
some of the names were misleading. No functional changes. Primarily, this is
just bringing the style into line with the rest of the codebase.

The comments app was unconditionally accessing various settings that didn't

exist in Django's global settings. Changed those accesses to conditional
lookups with default fallbacks.
The comment_test tests now pass without needing to add any extra settings.

Tweaked the Admin add/change page so that "save" is still the highlighted

too look like the default button and it actually operates as the defaut
(previously "save and add another" was the default action, which confused
people if you hit the save button and it looked like your work was eaten by a
grue).

When logging in, change the session key whilst preserving any existing

sesssion. This means the user will see their session preserved across a login
boundary, but somebody snooping the anonymous session key won't be able to view
the authenticated session data.
This is the final piece of the session key handling changes.

Fixed #8314 -- Fixed an infinite loop caused when submitting a session key (via

a cookie) with no corresponding entry in the database.
This only affected the database backend, but I've applied the same fix to all
three backends for robustness.

Fixed #6941 -- When logging a user out, or when logging in with an existing

session and a different user id to the current session owner, flush the session
data to avoid leakage. Logging in and moving from an anonymous user to a
validated user still keeps existing session data.
Backwards incompatible if you were assuming sessions persisted past logout.

Implemented a flush() method on sessions that cleans out the session and

regenerates the key. Used to ensure the caller gets a fresh session at logout,
for example.

Added guaranteed atomic creation of new session objects. Slightly backwards

incompatible for custom session backends.
Whilst we were in the neighbourhood, use a larger range of session key values
to save a small amount of time and use the hardware-base random numbers where
available (transparently falls back to pseudo-RNG otherwise).
